Sofi de la Torre’s sun-soaked musicality is on full display across her latest version of “4 Sure Sure”. Delivered over warm, delicate synths weaved through the syncopated heartbeat of the drums, Sofi's seamless harmonies flicker with promise, painting vibrant silhouettes for fellow Spanish star, Bon Calso, to fill.
Tell us a bit about your story: who are you and what has your journey looked like so far?
I’m Sofi. I write, I sing, I produce…my journey in this industry has been long and full of ups and downs. It’s taken me from London to Berlin to LA all the way back here to the [Canary] Islands. It’s been 10 years and I’m still nowhere near done, I’m always learning and evolving.
Who inspires you musically and creatively?
I have a lot of people I look up to. Kanye for example will never stop being number one for me in all aspects of creativity. I also really like El Guincho who I think has been a pioneer and a reference when it comes to making music at a certain level coming from the Canary Islands. I love photography and I’m a big fan of german photographer and creative Michael Ullrich who I’ve collaborated with on several of my artworks.
What is the creative process behind your music?
I usually just sit at my studio and sift through chords, synths, loops of anything I find beautiful that makes me want to sing to it. Or Jonas my producer sends me beats. One or the other. I love to record myself as I write so I hardly ever sit and write anything down.
What’s the best advice you’ve received during your journey?
To focus on the now and not be overwhelmed about whether or not I’ll still be able to do this in a couple years. I’ve been at it 10 years, I’ve always figured out a way. I’m sure I’ll figure it out for the next 10 too. To stop worrying about scenarios that haven’t happened is the thing I work on the most.
How do you nurture your creativity?
I used to be in studios with lots of writers and producers and that was fun but these days I tend to stay to myself and self-curate my inspirations, creative ideas…I work with like 4 or 5 people regularly and that’s it. It allows me to be way more in tune with what I want to do.
What do you hope your latest track '4 Sure Sure” ft. Bon Calso' will reveal to your listeners?
Going into this project I wanted two things: 1 to have the song reimagined in 4 different languages and have every version go as hard or even better than the original and 2 to collaborate with some of my favourite artists. I’d like for these songs to introduce the listeners to each of the artists’ universe because I think they’re all top tier and I’m their first fan.
Are there any upcoming shows or projects we can look forward to?
No shows as of yet but always working on that and a bunch of new music.
Is there any advice you want to give to new artists?
it’s not for everyone :)
