We’ve hand picked a small collection of artists who dropped some new releases this year that remind us to embrace it fervently.
1. JORDS's “ALMOST AN ADULT” (SOUNDTRACK + FILM)
Jords's “Almost An Adult” soundtrack captivates a story of vulnerability, self-acceptance, faith, unity, and the journey of Black Manhood. Accompanied by a stunning short film, the Croydon rapper showcases two worlds united by love: family love, love found in friendships, and with a lover. Featuring singles “Rose Tinted Glasses” which features Jaz Karis, “Halos” featuring Thea Gajic, “Mrs Chambers Kitchen 2” and “Patterned” featuring Dotty, the self-produced project uses poetic lyrics which highlights the pain and beauty life can bring.
2. GIVEON’S “TAKE TIME”
Giveon creates a Utopia for young flames in his debut album. A soundtrack to an intensive heated, passionate romance that soon fizzles out. The Californian born artist highlights the highs that come with these encounters (The Beach and World We Created) as well as the lows ( This Ain’t Love, Heartbreak Anniversary and Vanish).
TAKE TIME shows it’s listeners that despite the hopeful promises love can evoke, it can be just as fleeting.
3. PIP MILLETT’S “LOST IN JUNE”
Rising UKsoulbird,Pip Millett returns with her breathtaking new EP, Lost in June. Featuring singles Deeper Dark and Ava, Millet produces a soundtrack which reveals the beauty of unconditional love. With silvery vulnerable lyrics, her mother’s wise words and nostalgic rhythmic strings; the 8-track EP is one that feels like yesterday.
4. RAGZ ORIGINALE’S “TXT UR X”
London born producer and artist, Ragz Originale, returns with his newest EP txt ur x. Opening with his slick melody 4 AM, featuring sultry tones from ELIZA, Ragz reminisces on a lustful, exciting encounter he wishes to recreate during ungodly hours. The project openly expresses, with laid back vocals and sleek instrumentals to match; exactly what the title suggests. Txt ur x is an open letter dedicated to individuals who wish to find comfort in those they know far too well.
5. JHENE AIKO’S “CHILOMBO”
Jhene Aiko returns - with both feet planted on the ground - as she depicts the gains and losses within a failed relationship in Chilombo. Aiko’s airy voice provides a soundscape of strength for those with a broken heart. The cosmic inspired audio production echoes an hour of good vibes with instrumentals to match. 6. CLEO SOL’S “ROSE IN THE DARK”
Cleo Sol captures love in all its glory with uplifting lyrics demonstrated in Butterfly, Young Love and Her Light. She professes love being the opener to our freedom when accepting our true selves. Assisted by smooth strings and rhythmic drums, Cleo continues to build upon her blueprint of melodic words of wisdom; important messages of self-acceptance paralleling with personal growth.
