Signed to TDE alongside Kendrick Lamar and SZA, Doechii has taken the baton and entrenched her roots as a hip hop artist, citing the likes of Tyler The Creator, Nicki Minaj, and Kanye West as her inspirations—all artists who are renowned for conceptual storytelling in their music videos.

Denial Is A River could be regarded as a short film rather than just a music video, laced with a star-studded cast (Zack Fox, ScHoolboy Q, Earl Sweatshirt, SiR), a multilingual script and a laugh track - signalling a parody of American sitcom Family Matters. The familiar stage setup and sitcom tropes however, should not be mistaken for a conventional music video, as Doechii weaves her storytelling skills into this video concept, making it a cinematic escape for all those involved.
